The location of being close to places of interest for tourists. The Tavern was warm and welcoming and the meals were excellent value. We would recommend the hotel wholeheartedly.
No. We loved the "old worldliness".
When l booked and oragnised my sister from H. K. who visited some years years ago, she was very pleased with the British like old world charm of penny Royal hotel. When we decided to take off for the weekends from Hobart, of which we just moved from mainland NSW nearly 2 yrs back, we instantly thought of staying there, the bonus was the winter offers of course. The suite over looking the waters with the most interestesting waterwheel, though disfunctioned, was so unique .l ,was even more impressed when we went down to the tavern for breakfast, Its like somewhere in England. The waitresses were forever smiling. Front desk was smart to offer us complimentary drinks to keep us dining in at the penny royal, my husbands steak was beautiful, my tasting plate , could be slightly better, if the 100gm steak with sea food and satay chicken comes with appropriate sauce, , quatity was great and priced reasonably. Easy walking to town and was such a lovely stay and we are possitive to promote your hotel to all our visitors, when they visit Launceston. Thank you and hope to bopok with you again.(We did a lot of booking through Booked.net last year during our 8 weeks long eurail trips.) Mrs. mei jack
No. l have nothing to complain....with regard to Hotel side. perhaps suggestions for the restaurant : during the winter, at the main restaurant, we were seated by the door leading to the tavern(the breakfast place), as its was windy that evening, we have to put out with several times guest been taken over to the tavern for casual meal, and we were very cold, not very comfortable when you try to eat and keep your meal warm. You may be able to do something about it
Very convenient for the gorge and walking into city and pretty good value
Rather noisy with the road but had to have windows open as very hot
I enjoyed the atmosphere - the genuine old world charm. The location was excellent - easy to find and so close to the gorge was a bonus.
The accommodation was good as I was booking my husband into hospital at 7 the next morning. Was lovely to go to the restaurant across the road and just walk back to the room. It was clean comfortable and very quiet which I was surprised by. I would certainly use your hotel again.
When I rolled up I though I had paid for the accommodation full stop pick up invoice all too easy. But no I had to go back to the car park get my bag come back to reception put the credit card though and then I could not get an invoice until 7 in the morning and we had to be gone by then. So the invoice had to be sent. Maybe the cleaning supervisor needs to ask the staff need to check the alarms on the clock as we were awoken at midnight . Or maybe next time i would check the alarm on the clock. As this was our first stay I would know all this next time and we would stay.
distance between Reception and our apartment. Also difficulty parking at reception to check in, no clear direction to guest parking off the main road
Rooms seemed clean and bright. Modern looking.
During our stay there was a lot noise coming from outside our room in the hallways or down in the courtyard. In the morning I heard the cleaning staff talk very loudly, playing music and laughing while chatting since early in the morning. They knocked on door rooms not using their hands but a hard object sounding like a piece of steel and we heard that all morning before they even got to our room. Other than the noise the stay was quite good in general.
We were in the hotel section - which was originally a flour mill. Great room with period atmosphere - thick stone walls, heavy roof beams etc. Excellent amenities - the interior of the rooms looked like they had been fairly recently refurbished. Easy walking distance to city and Cataract Gorge and other attractions.
A bit of traffic noise, as we were in one of the rooms facing the road, but then we are used to a very quiet home in the country. No exhaust fan in bathroom, although could appreciate the difficulty of converting an old stone building.
outside looked attractive with all the colours and historical aspect of buildings
The apartment we had was poor in that the ventilation in the second bedroom was very poor.I disliked having no window to the outside .Also, had to open door to get air into the lounge area but this then blocked TV viewing as small. Also lounge was uncomfy.needed maintenance ,door badly needed oiling, fan in toilet was so noisy . Also, the location is vey noisy in the day but OK at night.
The hotel had a wonderful historic atmosphere with a large comfortable room. Within easy walking distance of Cataract George, the free Tiger bus and city centre. Very enjoyable.
Lugging the case up the stairs to the 2nd floor.
Close to the city central for shopping.and a good off road parking facility. Although there was a potential safety hazard in the bathroom ; ie" Clear shower screen a person could walk through onto it as it hasn,t got any markings as a clear glass normally would have to advise people that it was there.
Reasonably modern design
The historical aspects and distictive architecture create a unique atmosphere. The friendly and professional restaurant staff and the value for money will have me returning.
Rooms are clean and the design is classic.
Older style of the building, large room and comfortable beds. Great restaurant across from reception with very friendly staff, and the food was great. I will certainly recommend the hotel to my friends. E Curtis
The apartments we were put in were mock-up (not real like the reception area), and we had cobwebs in the room. The whole experience was not up to expectations.
